Verstappen’s F1 title defence rests on new Red Bull RB21

  • Red Bull Racing has previewed its contender for the 2025 Formula 1 season
  • The team’s new car is known as the RB21 and will be piloted by Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson
  • Verstappen will be chasing a fifth-straight title

Red Bull Racing unveiled its 2025 Formula 1 challenger, the RB21, during the high-profile F1 75 live event in London late on Tuesday.

The event celebrated the 75th anniversary of F1 and marked a new, fan-centric way to introduce the season’s cars and drivers ahead of the upcoming championship.

For Red Bull, the new season brings a key change in its driver lineup. Liam Lawson steps in to replace Sergio Perez and will join reigning world champion Max Verstappen, who is aiming for a fifth consecutive title.

The first race of the season, the Australian Grand Prix, is set for March 16, kicking off a 24-race calendar that includes three U.S. rounds in Miami, Austin, and Las Vegas.

While the RB21 made its debut at the London event, the car on display was only a show model. The final version is expected to be revealed later, likely during an initial shakedown test or during pre-season testing in Bahrain on Feb. 26. The 2025 F1 cars retain largely the same design regulations as last season’s models, with power unit rules remaining unchanged ahead of the significant overhaul set for 2026.

Red Bull continues to use a Honda-derived power unit, featuring a turbocharged 1.6-liter V-6 paired with two motor-generators—one integrated into the driveline and another with the turbocharger—producing a peak output of approximately 1,000 hp. However, from 2026, the team will transition to a power unit developed in-house with assistance from Ford, signaling a new era for Red Bull Racing.

Despite Verstappen clinching last season’s Drivers’ Championship, Red Bull failed to secure the Constructors’ title. McLaren emerged as the top team after both of its drivers delivered consistently strong performances throughout the season. Ferrari finished second in the standings, with Red Bull settling for third, adding extra motivation for the team to reclaim dominance in 2025.
