The 2027 Chevrolet Equinox EV is now on sale, starting at $34,995. The 2027 Kia EV3 starts at $29,890. On GM’s website, it still says the electric Equinox is “America’s most affordable 315+ mile range EV,” but is it really?

Chevy Equinox EV vs Kia EV3

In the fine print, GM said the comparison is based on the MSRP of the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV versus competing EVs, so yes, for the 2026 model year it was.

The 2027 Chevy Equinox EV is a carryover model, so not much is changing. The biggest update is a native NACS port that replaces the CCS port used on previous models (2024-2026), so drivers don’t need a separate adapter to use Tesla Superchargers.

However, all GM electric vehicles are transitioning to NACS for the 2027 model. The 2027 Chevy Equinox EV is available in the same LT1, LT2, and RS trims with FWD and AWD options.

The standard 2027 Chevy Equinox EV LT1 FWD starts at $34,995 and offers an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 319 miles.

Is it still the most affordable EV with over 315 miles of range? Not for the 2027 model year. Kia’s new entry-level electric SUV (shown above on the right) takes the title.

The 2027 Kia EV3 starts at $29,890. That’s for the base Light FWD with an EPA-estimated range of up to 221 miles.

2027 Kia EV3 Trim Prices – Starting MSRP* EPA-estimated Range
Kia EV3 Light FWD $29,890 221 miles
Kia EV3 Wind FWD $34,990 321 miles
Kia EV3 Wind AWD $38,690 280 miles
Kia EV3 Land FWD $38,490 321 miles
Kia EV3 Land AWD $41,690 280 miles
Kia EV3 GT-Line AWD $43,490 280 miles
Kia EV3 GT AWD $45,890 280 miles

The EV3 Wind FWD offers an EPA-estimated range of up to 321 miles and starts at $34,990. Even with the destination fee, Kia’s electric SUV has it beat.

The 2027 Chevy Equinox EV has a $1,800 destination fee, bringing the price to $36,795. With a $1,495 destination fee, the 2027 Kia EV3 Wind FWD purchase price is $36,485, or $310 less than the Equinox, with up to 2 miles of extra range.

2027 Chevy Equinox EV trim Starting Price* EPA-estimated Range
LT 1 FWD $34,995 319 miles
LT 1 AWD $38,295 307 miles
LT 2 FWD $41,795 319 miles
LT 2 AWD $45,095 307 miles
RS FWD $44,085 319 miles
RS AWD $47,395 307 miles

The Equinox has a 17.7″ central touchscreen (pictured below on the left), the largest in its class, while Kia’s ccNC infotainment system (shown on the right) includes dual 12.3″ driver displays and a central touchscreen, plus an added 5″ climate control display.

Measuring 169.3″ in length, 72.8″ in width, and 62″ in height, with a wheelbase of 105.5″, the EV3 is smaller than the Equinox (190.6″ L x 76.9″ W x 64.8″ H).

As such, the Equinox offers a bit more interior space with up to 57.2 cubic feet of max cargo space. The EV3 offers up to 56.5 cubic feet.
