BMW is working on its next-generation EV platform, code-named Neue Klasse, German for “New Class,” and the automaker has provided a taste of some of the digital aspects of the platform with the BMW i Vision Dee concept. Revealed on Wednesday ahead of a formal debut on Thursday at the 2023 CES in Las Vegas, the i Vision Dee is a compact sedan that’s been built to highlight the growing importance of digitization and connectivity in cars. A related BMW i Vision Circular concept was shown in 2021 as a representation of the circular economy, another core tenet of the…

One of the cruellest realities in life is that when something is done right it often seems as though nothing was done at all. People are far more likely to notice what’s out of place than what has been painstakingly put into place. In the realm of show cars, the Volkswagen community perhaps best represents this builder’s paradox. Unless you are steeped in all things Volkswagen, it’s easy to miss some of their most sought-after modifications. The top dogs in the VW show scene are equal parts nipping and tucking as they are applying otaku levels of OEM+ obsession. Mopar fans are often credited…

Volkswagen will use next month’s 2023 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to present the latest member of its expanding ID family of electric vehicles. The reveal will take place on Jan. 3 before a formal debut at CES, which runs from Jan. 5-8 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. VW said it plans to show a camouflaged prototype. The automaker will also confirm the name of the vehicle at the show. A likely bet is a mid-size sedan that VW previewed in June with the ID.Aero concept car. Prototypes for the sedan, which may end up with the name…

Volkswagen has revealed ID.7 as the name for the next model in its ID electric-vehicle family, and this week at CES in Las Vegas it’s showing a “digital camouflage” prototype of the ID.7 ahead of a production-bound reveal later this year.  Based on the ID.Aero concept car that VW had already confirmed was U.S.-bound, the ID.7 is a large sedan with a tapered, coupe-like roof and an emphasis on aerodynamics. At 194.5 inches long, it’s about the length of a Tesla Model S and is built on a long 116.9-inch wheelbase. But with a height of 60.2 inches, it’s a…

Although Rivian’s trend-setting R1T and R1S electric trucks and their outdoorsy lifestyle take top billing in headlines, Rivian EDV electric delivery vans have always been a top priority. As for why, look no further than one of the top retailers in the world. In 2019 Amazon announced it ordered 100,000 electric vans from Rivian as part of a $440 million investment into the startup automaker. Amazon’s importance to Rivian goes well beyond that: Prior to Rivian’s IPO Amazon owned 20% of the electric truck maker. Those vans headed out on the road to start making Prime deliveries in 2021. It’s…

The redesigned 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class made its debut last June and now we have fresh spy shots of a prototype for the compact crossover’s more dynamically styled GLC-Class Coupe option. The regular crossover and the coupe-like variant look to be even more differentiated with the new GLC-Class generation, especially at the rear of this GLC-Class Coupe where the haunches and ducktail spoiler appear much more pronounced than on the current model. Riding on Mercedes’ MHA (Modular High Architecture) platform for crossovers and SUVs with rear-wheel drive, the new GLC-Class Coupe will share its main underpinnings with the current model. But…

“After the Bilsport Performance & Custom Motor Show [AKA Elmia] was cancelled for the second year, I almost gave up,” says Johan Balsberg of his ‘Amalow’ build. We’re definitely glad he didn’t. If you caught my recent story on Sture Balsberg’s Volvo Amazon Estate, you’ll know that this feature on his son’s car was coming. Johan’s 1965 Volvo Amazon Sedan is equally as cool as his father’s Estate, but the approach taken has been a little different. Johan’s interest in old Volvos stemmed from his grandfather, who had a red 1967 Amazon 122 stored in his barn at the family farm in South Sweden. He had bought it from the…

Nio used its annual Nio Day event held on Dec. 24 in Hefei, China, to present two new vehicles, one of which marks the start of a new model line for the Chinese EV brand. The vehicles included a redesigned ES8 mid-size SUV and a new EC7 mid-size SUV with a coupe-like roof profile.
