Ram Gives Its Workhorse Trucks A Dark New Look For 2027

  • Ram is giving its 2027 Chassis Cab lineup a new Night Edition package with blacked-out styling as a factory-customized look.
  • The package is available on 3500, 4500, and 5500 Chassis Cab models in Regular Cab and Crew Cab configurations.
  • The Night Edition costs $1,695 on Laramie models and $2,195 on Big Horn models, with orders opening in Q4 2026.

The Ram Chassis Cab is joining the dark side for the 2027 model year because apparently even work trucks want to look cool. Ram is giving its heavy-duty commercial pickup a new Night Edition package that replaces the usual flashy brightwork with blacked-out styling. It’s available on the 3500, 4500, and 5500. Buyers can choose either a Regular Cab or Crew Cab, with the package offered on the Big Horn and Laramie trim levels.

The Big Horn Night Edition gets black-painted wheels, black badging, gloss-black grille nostrils, a Sport Performance hood, and body-color exterior elements including the grille surround, front bumper, and the fender flares. The front and rear parking sensors also come in black, as do the door handles.

Ram does things a bit differently with the Laramie, starting with several body-colored elements and parking sensors as standard before adding the Night Edition’s black-painted wheels, black badging, gloss-black grille billets and nostrils, plus the Sport Performance hood.

No mechanical upgrades hide underneath all that black trim. The Chassis Cab continues with a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 producing 375 horsepower and 429 pound-feet (581 Newton-meters) of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Alternatively, customers can choose the 6.7-liter Cummins turbocharged inline-six diesel, which develops 360 hp and a ridiculous 800 lb-ft (1,085 Nm).

The Night Edition costs $2,195 on Big Horn models equipped with the Level 1 or Level 2 Equipment Group. On Laramie models, the package is $1,695. Orders open in the fourth quarter of 2026, with trucks arriving later in the year.

Motor1’s Take: The Night Edition doesn’t fundamentally change what the Ram Chassis Cab is. It’s still a highly configurable workhorse designed to make life easier for businesses and upfitters. That’s precisely why the cosmetic treatment makes sense: commercial trucks are often rolling advertisements for the companies that operate them, and not every owner wants a sea of chrome.

The $1,695-$2,195 asking price isn’t insignificant, especially on a vehicle bought primarily as a tool. Still, for customers who were going to personalize their trucks anyway, getting the blacked-out look directly from the factory should be more convenient than doing it themselves. And let’s be honest: a blacked-out Ram 5500 with a Cummins under the hood is a pretty convincing way to show up at a job site.
