Volkswagen announced that prices for the ID.3 Neo will start at £33,080 ($45,000). The electric hatch is bringing an all-new look inside and out, a longer driving range, and Volkswagen’s latest tech and software.

The ID.3 Neo is the successor to the electric hatch that has been a core model since Volkswagen first launched it in 2019.

Volkswagen promises its next-generation electric vehicles will be a step change from its current lineup, starting with the ID.3 Neo.

The ID.3 Neo is the first to debut with Volkswagen’s new naming system as it shifts away from just numbers like the ID.3, ID.4, and ID.5. It also features a refined style inside and out, a new drive system and battery that improves efficiency, and modern tech and features.

According to VW’s chief designer Andreas Mindt, the ID.3 has the “secret sauce” that will be a signature on all upcoming vehicles.

Up front, it features a new full-length LED light bar creating the traditional Volkswagen “smile.” Higher-priced trims gain an illuminated VW logo. The removal of the black roof and tailgate “makes this the sleekest ID.3 model to date,” Volkswagen said.

Inside, the ID.3 Neo debuts Volkswagen’s new interior design. Based on customer feedback, the setup includes the return of physical buttons under the infotainment screen and steering wheel.

The upgraded infotainment system has a 10.25″ driver display and 12.9″ infotainment screen. Like the ID. Polo, the ID.3 Neo also features a new retro model that transforms the display to resemble the first-generation Golf.

In the UK, the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo will go on sale on August 13. It will be available in three trims: Life, Style and a limited-run Style Launch Edition.

The base Life trim starts at £33,080 ($45,000), while the Style and Launch Edition versions are priced from £38,500 ($52,000) and £39,750 ($54,000), respectively. All versions are eligible for the government’s £1,500 ($2,000) Electric Car Grant (ECG).

Three battery packs will be offered: 50 kWh, 58 kW, and 79 kW, providing WLTP driving ranges of up to 258 miles (417 km), 306 miles (494 km), and 390 miles (630 km).

The 50 kWh battery can charge from 10% to 80% in around 24 minutes with DC fast charging. The 58 kWh and 79 kWh batteries take 26 minutes and 29 minutes, respectively, to go from 10% to 80%.

Volkswagen’s electric hatch is slightly more expensive than the similar-sized BYD Dolphin, which starts at £30,230 ($41,000) in the UK.

In Germany, the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo Trend is available starting at €33,995 ($39,000) with the standard 50 kWh battery. Pre-orders opened in Germany and other European markets in April.
