Porsche has once again been spotted testing a Taycan prototype fitted with elements normally seen on the automaker’s GT sports cars. We previously published spy shots of a prototype for an updated Taycan that should arrive later this year to mark the midway point in the electric sedan and wagon’s life cycle. However, the prototype shown here is for something very different. There’s no missing the new aerodynamic elements, like the extended front splitter, chunky side skirts, rear diffuser, and rear wing. The front air curtains have also been sealed, suggesting the prototype might feature active shutters or new air…

Ford has filed a patent application for a new type of EV charging connector based on a magnetic coupling. In the application, which was filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) November 1, 2022, Ford describes using magnetic attraction to secure a charging connector with a charge port embedded in a vehicle’s bumper. It sounds somewhat like the MagSafe connector you might use to charge your Apple product, but a whole lot bigger. Ford envisions this magnetic charging connector being used with both EVs and plug-in hybrids, and with AC and DC charging stations. It also indicated…

Quick Facts About Overlooked Costs When Buying a Used Car We’ve all heard the old saying, “There’s more than meets the eye.” So it is in a discussion of the hidden financial costs when buying a used car. However, it’s not so much hidden costs as costs you simply may not have considered. Most of us don’t invest the time we should researching a vehicle purchase. VerdictThe new four-wheel-drive SL 55 AMG is surprisingly sharp to drive for a two-tonne, open-topped car and its hood-up refinement is also deeply impressive. But its interior, although extremely well equipped, lacks design maturity – and if ever a car could have too many toys to play with (or become confused by) this is it. We like the new SL, but we don’t love it.Mercedes entrusted the development of the new SL to its AMG division – and in most areas, it shows. Despite weighing almost two tonnes and being powered by a familiar 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, the new SL…

The 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 is both a phenomenal and hard-to-love roadster all in one. There are few things it does wrong or poorly. Its acceleration is relentless. Its suspension wizardry works like a charm. The interior is definitively luxurious. You could also make the argument that it’s one of the best-looking cars on sale today. It has all of this going for it, but man, it’s just not as much fun as it should be. For previous generations of SL, being a sports car was not their stated missions. Sure, there were AMG and Black Series variants, but the…
