Recurrent’s primary business is producing battery health reports for used EVs, but the company analyzes data used to produce those reports to draw other conclusions about EV driving. BMW has licensed solid-state battery cell designs and manufacturing processes from Colorado-based Solid Power, taking the partnership between the two companies up a notch. The automaker, which began partnering with Solid Power in 2017, will install copies of the firm’s solid-state cell pilot production lines at its facilities in Germany, and Solid Power will supply its sulfide-based solid electrolyte for those pilot lines, the battery firm announced last week in a press release. The entire U.S. West Coast now aims to end sales of new gasoline cars by 2035. Specifically, Washington and Oregon recently enacted rules requiring that new vehicles be mostly emission-free by 2035. These plans, which will permit continued sales of plug-in hybrids that also run on gasoline, align with goals already in place in California. Both states have already followed California’s lead by adopting the state’s emissions standards, which are stricter than federal standards, albeit at slightly different speeds. Volkswagen will raise prices on the 2023 ID.4 electric crossover lineup by $1,500 for vehicles assembled on January 4, 2023, or later, the company confirmed Thursday. The seventh and final Dodge “Last Call” special edition will debut March 20 at a special event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Dodge announced Tuesday. Dodge is rolling out the Last Call special editions as a sendoff for the current Challenger and Charger. “Gymkhana” hero and rally driver Ken Block died on Monday according to his official social media accounts. Block’s crew at Hoonigan confirmed via Instagram he died in a snowmobile accident on Jan. 2. Block was 55 years old and is survived by his wife and three children. TMZ reported that the Wasatch County, Utah, sheriff’s office said the accident happened at about 2 p.m. when the snowmobile upended and landed on top of Block.
